I weighed 253 lbs. and was diagnosed as being obese and pre-diabetic. At 58 years old, I knew something had to change. When I started my membership at [my gym], my plan was simply to lose weight and to gain strength and health. I am planning to retire from my job in 18 months and I did not want to start that phase of my life in the worse shape of my life. So I made a commitment that I have never done before, I signed up for a personal trainer three hours a week. I was lucky enough to get Mr. Lawrence Brown as my personal trainer. I could tell right away that he loves what he does and he brings so much experience and motivation.
Lawrence explained to me that his approach to fitness is about “muscle endurance”. Not lifting weights that are so heavy they make old joints ache but to lift moderate weights for enough reps so that the target muscles get fatigued and more importantly, it becomes an aerobic workout. The numbers speak for themselves, I have lost 42 pounds and I am pushing and pulling weights that I never thought was possible. I am back to cycling again which is a real love of mine. I’m not only cycling but cycling strong! This is all attributed to Lawrence having me do an endless of amounts squats, lunges, step-ups, leg extensions, and leg presses. Lawrence is always encouraging me during each workout, telling me to “get it” and “good Jeff!”.
At the beginning of this journey, Lawrence stressed to me the importance of good nutrition. He did not judge me or put me on a specific diet but gave me a framework for a good approach to eat right. Drop the sugar and carbs and increase lean protein. Easy right! Well, everything that is processed has sugar and carbs in it. I decided that the Keto diet would be worth trying and this is the diet that has been working for me. It takes discipline but coupled with my workouts with Lawrence, I started seeing results within the first couple of weeks. Now there is no looking back. I’m addicted.
I want to express my experience with something very personal that I have been fighting for a long time. For many months I have changed my eating habits and leaving behind everything that is not healthy for me. Many diets and exercise that I did was still impossible to lose weight, I did not know what my problem was until I went to the doctor, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, my thyroid was also not functioning at all, I now have to take thyroid medication the rest of my life and I was also diagnosed with PCOS. Today I want to scream very strong that no matter what obstacles are in front of you, you can lose weight and be healthy! I never imagined I would see results in such a short time. I thought it would take years and I even believed the negative story’s that people like me with these diseases can never lose weight. But I am a persistent person who does not stop dreaming and certainly does not give up.
Today my doctors are impressed, the PCOS has disappeared and I have lost 51lbs in under a year. I was able to achieve all this with the help of my coach Lawrence Brown who from the first day told me “I will not let you fail, I will not let you give up, you WILL lose weight”! With his patience and his infinite love for changing lives every day, the unconditional support of my husband John to follow this healthy lifestyle together and with the unconditional support of my parents, brothers and the world gym I’m making it. I’m coming out of that body where I felt trapped and didn’t feel as myself. This is the beginning of my story, this has taken strength and courage to share but I want inspire all those who suffer from Hypothyroidism, PCOS or any other sickness, none of this has to stop them and believe in themselves. Do not stop fighting for your goals in life, do not allow any negative thoughts in your mind and heart, believe in you and show yourself that you can be better than yesterday, and stop being trapped in a body that is not you! Please give yourself the opportunity to live a healthy lifestyle, all this is not for vanity it’s for your own good. Don’t criticize people for their weight if you do not know their situation, it’s best to lend a hand and help
Over the course of my lifetime, I guess that I have gained and lost about 1000 pounds. My weight gain has been chalked up to thyroid hormone fluctuations, emotional issues or just plain laziness. I had spent so many years feeling bad about myself and “less-than” due to my disappointment over my appearance, not to mention the aches and pains I experienced due to so much extra weight on my joints.
I had never been one for the traditional gym environment. The gym, I thought, was for people who were already in shape and knew what they were doing. Why would I want to further embarrass myself by failing again?
In the past 3 years, I have hired personal trainers and tried different small gyms with limited success. Although the trainers were very knowledgeable and well-meaning, I never made a real connection. After spending thousands of dollars, gaining back the few pounds I had lost, and felt discouraged, I came to Fiesta Trails Gold’s Gym in October 2014. I began by putting together a routine that was a mix-match version of the many personal training sessions I had had over the past few years.
So, I plugged away for a few weeks, trying to make some sense of a workout plan. I thought, “Maybe if I show up every day, something good will happen”. Guess what? Something GREAT happened! I was befriended by Lawrence Brown. Lawrence gave me encouragement, workout tips, sound advice, and a meal plan that changed the course of my life. Lawrence lives by the mottos, “Give Back” and “Bless Others”. For Lawrence, it’s not about “selling” as much as it is his genuine love of what he does and his unwavering concern for my success (and yours!) Under Lawrence’s care and with his belief in me, I conquered this “weight demon”. I’m in the best shape of my life and have lost close to 50 lbs.
For the first time, I know I can accomplish the weight and fitness goals I only imagined months ago. I am truly grateful for the help I’ve received and look forward to encouraging others to accomplish their fitness goals. As the saying goes, ‘If I can do it, so can you

I teach my clients how to incorporate proper nutrition and maximize their workouts while showing them the fundamentals and proper techniques to gain lasting results.
